    WHAT HAPPENED?

England captain Kane, who was a target for the Premier League side before he eventually joined Bayern this summer, produced a deft touch to release Kingsley Coman, who gave goalkeeper Andre Onana no chance in front of the Stretford End at Old Trafford on Tuesday. United ended up losing 1-0 and crashed out of the competition at the group stage whereas Bayern topped the group and advanced alongside Copenhagen.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

United's Champions League campaign proved to be a disastrous one. Their four points from six games is their lowest in any Champions League game and the 15 goals they shipped is the most by a Premier League side in any group stage of the competition. Manager Erik ten Hag is fighting to keep his job and the future, at present, looks bleak. The Red Devils seem further away from winning trophies this season, too.

WHAT NEXT FOR UNITED AND KANE?

Ten Hag's team now face a daunting trip to Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday. They lost 7-0 to the Reds the last time they went to Anfield – a result they will want to avoid repeating. Kane, meanwhile, will be hoping to add to his insane tally of 30 goal contributions this term when Bayern host Stuttgart on Sunday.
